Je, tu, il, elle

„Je“ is a girl voluntarily lock up in a room.  „Tu“ is the script. „Il” is a lorry driver. „Elle“ is the girlfriend.   Julie, a young woman alone in a room moves her furniture, writes letters, and eats granulated sugar. She leaves her room and finds a driver with whom she eats and drinks. Later, she joins a young woman with whom she has sex.   In her boundary-breaking feature debut Chantal Akerman herself plays a young woman who seeks to address her experience of isolation through the study of other individuals. Biography Chantal Akerman

Born in Brussels in 1950 as the daughter of Polish-Jewish immigrants, she died in Paris in 2015. Many of her films take Jewish life
after the Holocaust as their subject. With her 1975 work JEANNE DIELMAN, 23 QUAI DU COMMERCE, 1080 BRUXELLES she also positioned herself as a filmmaker of the feminist avant-garde. Her filmography of almost 50 titles attracted many contemporary admirers including US director Gus van Sant and her work screened frequently at the Berlinale. Her final film NO HOME MOVIE premiered in New York in 2015.
